In many places in our culture, leadership seems to be crumbling. The media is filled with stories about leaders whose immoral past discredit all that they have done. Then there are the reports about leaders who are manipulative, abusive, and demeaning to those they are in charge of. Some lead well. But it seems as though many do not.
How can we react in this current climate without becoming cynical or discontent? How can we prevent the very visible or very personal failures of others from making us skeptical of all leaders? What can we do to prevent our hearts from being poisoned because of the leadership failures around us?
This was the atmosphere Jeremiah spoke into as God brought encouragement and direction to a people who had horrible leaders. He gives us great advice about guarding ourselves and moving forward in Jeremiah 23:1-8.
